		<description>Tutia Schaad is a fashion and costume designer and Professor of Fashion Design at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin.
FASHION DESIGNIn 2009, after graduating as a Meisterschülerin from weißensee kunsthochschule berlin and gaining professional experience at Givenchy Haute-Couture and Prêt-à-Porter in Paris, she co-founded PERRET SCHAAD, which went on to become one of the most widely covered fashion brands in Germany.

As co-owner and co-creative director of the label, she developed and marketed its collections, presented them during Berlin Fashion Week in venues including Mies van der Rohe’s Neue Nationalgalerie, David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, and the HELLWEG hardware store, and established an international distribution network. The label received extensive coverage in the German and international press, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, WWD, Vogue Germany, Wallpaper and Le Monde, and was worn by prominent German actresses and cultural figures such as Hannah Herzsprung, Karoline Herfurth, Fritzi Haberlandt, Aino Laberenz and Anna-Maria Mühe.

In 2018, Tutia Schaad founded her eponymous design studio, expanding her practice into interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of design, art, sustainability and innovation.
EDUCATION

On 1 September 2026, Tutia Schaad was appointed Professor of Fashion Design at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. She joined the university after eight years at Macromedia University, where she played a key role in developing and leading the Fashion Design programme at Atelier Chardon Savard from 2018 to 2026. During her tenure, she held several leadership positions, including Head of the Creative Arts Faculty on Macromedia’s Berlin campus and, subsequently, Head of the Study Programme Fashion Design. Alongside her work at Macromedia, she has taught and led workshops at institutions including Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach, HEAD Genève and UCLA.

At weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, her artistic practice as a fashion and costume designer forms an integral part of her teaching, connecting professional experience with artistic, conceptual and interdisciplinary approaches to fashion design.
COSTUME DESIGN

Since 2016, Tutia Schaad has designed costumes for theatre and performance productions in Germany and internationally, collaborating with directors including Toshiki Okada, Lola Arias, Christopher Rüping and Michiel Vandevelde. Her work has been presented at theatres and cultural institutions across Europe and Japan, including the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin,  Centre Pompidou in Paris and KAAT in Yokohama. Her upcoming productions are collaborations with Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Zürich, New National Theatre Tokyo and Volksbühne Berlin.
